Insurance Jobs

Almost everybody needs insurance of some kind.

To drive a vehicle in the United States, drivers must be covered by some form of car insurance. And unless you can afford to pay out-of-pocket for health care, you need health insurance. Although it can be an incredibly complicated (and frustrating) industry, insurance has an important role in our lives: it protects us from sudden financial losses.

That's why this is a good time to look for insurance jobs. More and more people are purchasing insurance, and the demand continues to increase. Insurance jobs can be fun - you get to meet new people, hear their stories, and protect them against future misfortune.

Insurance Adjuster Jobs & Sales Jobs Are in Demand

While some create their own company, most people who find insurance jobs work for an insurance carrier company or their supporting institutions. Insurance carriers are large companies that sell insurance coverage in return for assuming financial risk. Behind those companies are insurance agencies and brokerages, which sell insurance policies for the carriers. Insurance salespeople can work at any level.

Depending on the type of insurance, people with insurance jobs may either work in an office or out in the field. Most health insurance employees work in an office, for instance, while those who sell flood insurance must go to areas with a high risk of flood. Many insurance salespeople go to wherever potential clients will agree to meet them, from private homes to coffee shops.

Not all insurance jobs require face-to-face sales, however. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 44 percent of insurance workers are in office and administrative support jobs similar to those found in every industry, although they need often need insurance-specific training.
